Our art project

“WHO ARE WE? WHERE DO WE COME FROM? WHERE ARE WE GOING AS A HUMAN SPECIES?”

100 life-size sculptures formed the landscape installation Horizon Field Vorarlberg from 2010 to 2012. They were spread over an area of 150 km² in the municipalities of Mellau, Schoppernau, Schröcken, Warth, Mittelberg, Lech, Klösterle and Dalaas.

HORIZON FIELD VORARLBERG

Positioned at an altitude of 2,039 m above sea level, the work of art stretched across the Klostertal, the Arlberg, the Kleinwalsertal and the Bregenzerwald.

FASCINATING LANDSCAPE INSTALLATION

The landscape installation initiated by the Kunsthaus Bregenz (KUB) was an outstanding success in the two years of its original presentation. The work has made a lasting impression on many people.

OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH NATURE

ACUPUNCTURE OF THE LANDSCAPE

The artist describes his work Horizon Field Vorarlberg, conceived in 2010 for the alpine high mountains, as an “acupuncture of the landscape”. The works form “a field in which living bodies and active minds are involved in measuring the space and distance through the field of these static iron bodies, and of course both skiers and hikers are part of this. The installation recognises the deep connection between social and geological territory; between landscape and memory.”

QUESTIONS OF HUMANITY

“The reality of climate change and the urgent need to realign our relationship with nature make Horizon Field Vorarlberg more relevant than ever before,” says the artist.

RETHINK AND REASSESS

“Through the questioning of our relationship to nature inherent in the physical presence of the artwork, the most important questions currently facing humanity are posed: Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going as a human species? Horizon Field Vorarlberg offers us tools that enable us to rethink and reassess our relationship with the earth.”
