PERMANENT INSTALLATION OF HORIZON FIELD VORARLBERG

As a private art association, we are committed to the re-erection of Antony Gormley’s unique landscape installation. The 100 iron sculptures are to return to their locations in the high alpine mountains to stay. We want to preserve this world-class art for future generations and have Horizon Field Vorarlberg become a permanent addition to the region’s cultural landscape. We are proposing the permanent installation of Horizon Field Vorarlberg without recourse to public funding.

Horizon Field Vorarlberg: This video was made in 2010 on the occasion of the opening of the art installation. Antony Gormley explains the artistic idea behind his work.
  • Otto Huber, Chairman Kunstverein HORIZON FIELD
»This magnificent work of art makes the relationship between us humans and nature tangible in a unique way. Its message is universal and timeless and at the same time tied to the place where it was created. Vorarlberg could expand its distinctive cultural profile with this internationally acclaimed work of art.«
  • Sabine Haag, art historian, former General Director of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna
»It is difficult to imagine another project that combines artistic significance, touristic appeal, ecological sustainability and socio-political relevance with the same explosiveness and distinctiveness.«
  • Magnus Brunner, EU Commissioner
»Antony Gormley’s iron men have brought contemporary art to life in Vorarlberg and created invaluable added value for all visitors. That’s why I support the HORIZON FIELD association in its efforts to bring the fascinating iron men back to the beautiful mountain world.«
  • Andrea Mayer, Cabinet Director, former State Secretary for Art and Culture
»Horizon Field Vorarlberg brings people into contact with art and allows us to perceive it as an indispensable part of our lives. The return of this unique and fascinating silent show would be a great enrichment for Austria as an art country.«
  • Stefan Sagmeister, artist and designer
»The most difficult thing in design and art is to create a ‘good’ work that can convince both the experts and the masses. Antony Gormley’s Horizon Field Vorarlberg is one of those rare works that accomplish this in a wonderful way.«
  • Dietmar Eberle, Architect
»A landscape becomes a place through the project.«
  • Astrid Steharnig-Staudinger, CEO Austrian National Tourist Office
»The Horizon Field Vorarlberg project strengthens Austria’s international reputation as a cultural nation by highlighting the connection between contemporary art and the Alpine landscape. The return of this outstanding work of art to Vorarlberg supports our efforts to position Austria in the eyes of culture-loving travelers.«
  • Renger van den Heuvel, Founding Director STAGE Bregenz
»The four-country region around Lake Constance offers a range of contemporary art comparable to that of a metropolis. The planned reinstallation of Antony Gormley’s artwork “Horizon Field” will add a pearl of international quality. It combines culture and nature and fits in with the trend that shows that art can also develop its expressive power in a non-urban environment. I am convinced that the realization of the project will have a positive impact on the infrastructure for contemporary art in the region.«
  • Christian Schützinger, Managing Director Vorarlberg Tourismus
»The artistic value and global significance of Horizon Field contribute to the cultural and economic development of our region. This installation underlines the importance of Vorarlberg as the cultural center of the Lake Constance region and promotes the perception of our vacation region as a cultivated, high-quality and authentic recreational area.«
